3 Recognition Resolutions for 2022

Looking for some ways to support and enhance the employee experience in the new year? Here are a few ideas.

Have you made your New Year’s resolutions for 2022?

Even for those of us who don’t make formal resolutions, the beginning of a new year is often a time of reflection - where we make a fresh start and think about positive changes we can make in our lives and work.

In our recent Recognition Resolutions webinar, we chatted with the Workhuman® team to talk about some of the goals companies are setting in 2022.

Here are three resolutions that came out of the webinar and some advice on how to achieve them!

1.   Cultivate an active culture of gratitude in 2022 and beyond.
You have the perfect delivery platform in your company to help create a culture that centers on gratitude and appreciation. If you’re looking to turn passive gratitude into active gratitude in your company, consider some of these strategies:
  • Give a Team Award from leadership to set the tone for the new year.
Team Awards can help boost morale and engagement in times of change, strengthening peer-to-peer connections and building a stronger community. Use these awards to celebrate group achievements, reward perseverance and resiliency, and show appreciation for employees on special occasions like Employee Appreciation Day on March 4 and National Nurses Day on May 6.

  • Remind employees about their recognition program in a visual, interactive way.
Use posters, banners, desk drops, and screensavers to remind employees daily about your program. Plan a social network takeover and ask workers what they’re thankful for. Download our Employee Appreciation Day toolkit for templates and inspiration to guide you!

  • Individualize recognition through human engagement.
As part of every Workhuman program, employees receive a personalized, guided experience that shows them how to recognize coworkers. This helps to jump-start participation and turn gratitude into a regular habit. Based on the activity and role of each user, we also follow up that onboarding with “smart” in-product nudges, guides, and emails - following best-in-class consumer technology - to continually optimize and drive adoption and engagement.

2.   Use recognition to support company well-being resolutions.
In our recent series on Recognition and Well-Being, we talked about how recognition can help support physical, emotional, occupational, and social well-being at work. In light of the lingering pandemic, mental health has become a real focus at work, and psychological safety is critical for employees to advocate for their needs. Recognition is a key tool to help uplift your employees because it:
  • Creates and channels joy and positivity

  • Enhances peer connections, relationships, and belonging

  • Shows alignment with your mission, values, and purpose

  • Helps employees feel valued within your team

  • Helps employees connect to your greater community

  • Brings shared values to life – showing employees what “good” looks like

Use Community Celebrations® to encourage well-being programs, and consider adding a new award reason for inclusion and belonging, wellness, or other company priorities around well-being.

3.   Support employees as they set and meet goals in 2022.
Resolutions or not, most of your employees are working toward goals of their own. According to our research on the Great Resignation, only one-third of employees have been thanked in the last month – and workers who have not been thanked are twice as likely to be looking for work. Enhance employees’ feelings of belonging and success in your organization by supporting their goals and encouraging their efforts. Here are a few ways Workhuman can help:
    • Use Conversations® to help employees focus their efforts by setting goals, giving and receiving feedback, and checking in on progress.

    • Use Social Recognition® to congratulate and thank employees for achieving professional and organizational goals. Remember to recognize the progress toward the goal throughout, not just the completion of the goal.

    • Enhance belonging by recognizing employees as they progress in their personal goals, and encourage them to bring their whole selves to work. Use Community Celebrations and Life Events® to acknowledge important milestones and group efforts throughout the year.

Are you setting resolutions around recognition in your organization? We’d love to hear about them. Please share your stories with your customer success team or send us an email to [email protected]. Happy New Year!
